In the battle of the big two, Chapel United came out
victorious by beating Gt Wakering 3-1. Edwards, Warner S and Harding scoring the
goals. The result ends Wakering’s perfect start to the season but they still
top the league. Hayes’ goal was all that separated second placed Tag United
and Castle Rangers. Pegasus grabbed a last minute winner against Chalkwell.
Manager McNally described himself as “livid” and I’d suspect seeing his
beloved blow a 2 goal lead against “that team from the East End”
hasn’t helped improve his mood. Brit Academicals beat an improving Styles 1-0.
Brit II remain the only side with a 100% record, they
recorded their fifth win in five after beating Stambridge United 2-0. Hockley
British Legion won 4-1 at Catholic and move into second place. Gt Wakering II
won 5-2 at Southend Collegians and leap frog them into third. Hullbridge Sports
beat Ford Basildon 3-1, Heaver getting a second.
In the Charity Cup it was a good day for Eversley Park as
they hammered Lions 10-0, Webb getting three. Southend Supporters won 4-0 at AFC
Corringham.
Earls Hall won the battle of the top two in Division 2,
as they beat Eversley Sports 2-0. Ekco recorded a healthy 4-0 win at William de
Ferrers. Wheatleys drew again, this time 3-3 with Foulness. Basildon United won
4-3 against Milton Athletic, manager Robinson still too excited to remember to
phone in his scorers. It’s not like he’s never collated the results before.
Basildon almost blew it though as they almost let slip a 4-0 half time lead.
Sutton Sports faced Inn on the Green, with both of them
occupying the top two spots in Division 3. Gibson bagged 4 as Sutton won 6-0 and
opened up a four point lead. Bennett and Richardson also grabbed 4 a piece as
Rayleigh Olympiads swept to a convincing 9-0 win over Zeus.
Brit III remain top of Division Four, but had to settle for a 1-0 win over Fairfax. Corinthians and Old Southendian II share second spot. Corry won 6-2 against Laindon whilst the Old Boys beat Chalkwell III 2-0 in a dire game. Gt Wakering III won 2-0 against Catholic United II.
