Sunday 1st November
Well, winter arrived didn’t it? Across the rain swept parks of South East Essex, the Vets played. Well some did. You know I remember when I was a kid, we’d all have played in this. Then again I remember going to the swimming pool and getting polio, black and white telly and when Spurs were good. (actually, that’s a lie, I am not that old).
Gt Wakering continue their leadership of the league. They
bounced back from their defeat last week, to see of a spirited Castle Rangers
4-2. Tag United and Chapel both keep up the pressure. Tag won 4-2 at Concord
whilst Chapel beat Pegasus 3-0. Brit and Old Southendian couldn’t trouble the
scorers. The Chalkwell v Styles game was abandoned after an hour. Manager
McNally’s mood this week “damp”.
In Division One Brit II are now 6 from 6. They beat
second placed Hockley British Legion 6-1, who had two players sent off. Clark
grabbing a hat trick for Brit. This division already looks like a battle for
second place and currently that’s Great Wakering II. They won 2-1 against
Catholic. Stambridge saw off Southend Collegians 2-0. Hullbridge and Southend
Supporters shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw.
Ford Basildon moved into the next round of the Charity
Cup, beating William de Ferrers 8-1, Spencer getting three.
In Division Two, Earls Hall could only manage a 1-1 draw with
Corringham, but still lead the table. Eversley Sports sit in second, a Campbell
treble helped them beat Milton 7-1. Ekco sit in third having beaten Foulness
3-0. Wheatleys and Basildon was called off. Cats don’t like water!
There was no more league action, the lower divisions
saw League Cup games being played.
Simco needed a penalty shoot out to beat Eversley Park.
The shoot out may have been 4-3 or 4-1, depends on which team you believe.
Rayleigh Olympiads scored a late winner at Nicholas Colts to win 1-0. Sutton
Sports won 4-1 against Zeus. The Chalkwell v Inn on the Green was abandoned
after 55 minutes.
In the Fourth Division League Cup, Great Wakering
Rovers beat Corinthians 1-0, Bell scoring. That was a first round game, everyone
else was involved in the second round. Catholic II had a storming come back
against Fairfax. 0-3 down at half time and looking dead and buried, like Lazarus
they rose again and won the game 4-3. Brit III beat Laindon 5-2. To complete a
miserable wet day for Chalkwell, the 3rd XI game was called off at
half time as neither side was able to pass the ball in the lake that was Cupids.
