Veterans League 18th October
That most bizarre of competitions, the Essex Sunday Veterans Cup kicked off on Sunday. Bizarre? Well, yes. One clubs from one league – this league – enter it. Still, it gives us a free morning out at the expense of the blazers at ECFA. Do a nice cup of tea and cake they do. William de Ferrers provided the only shock of the road, they won 4-2 at Hullbridge Sports, after extra time. Gibson scoring three.
Elsewhere games went to the form book. The only Prem side to bow out were Styles, who lost to fellow Premmers Pegasus 4-2 for whom White scored three. Chalkwell were made to work hard to see off Ekco Sports & Social, but they won 4-3. Castle Rangers were also given a competitive game by Sutton Sports, but came away winning 2-0. Previous winners Fords, marched into the next round beating Simco 3-2.
Another former winner, Old Southendian, beat Southend
Collegians 3-2 in a hard fought encounter. Summerfield scored 3 as Brit won 5-2
at Wheatleys. Foulness beat Inn on the Green 3-1. Corringham beat Eversley
Sports 5-3, someone got a hat trick but as the result from phoned in from Alpha
Centauri, I will never know it was. Eversley Park won 3-1 at Milton.
The Charity Cup also kicked off. The first round saw
two former winner meet, and Chapel came away with a handsome 9-0 win over
Hockley British Legion, Harding smacking in four. The other game was some
tighter and it saw Fourth Division Fairfax beat Second Division Basildon United
5-4 on pens. Fairfax having come from 2-0 down forced extra time at 3-3. With no
further goals, penalties decided the outcome.
In the League Gt Wakering go to the top of the Premier
Division after beating a much fancied Concord Rangers side 6-1. With four wins
out of four, the Wakering boys already look the side to beat.
In Division One Brit II won 6-1 at Southend Supporters
with Clark getting three. They also have a four from four record. Stambridge won
1-0 against Wakering II with Roberts scoring the only goal.
There were no games in Division 2 just in case anyone
thinks I’ve forgotten about them!
Nicholas Colts and Rayleigh Olympiads both recorded
wins in Division Three against Zeus and Chalkwell II respectively.
Brit III go to the top of Division Four after beating
previous leaders Corinthians 3-0. Old Southendian move into third after beating
Catholic II 2-1, Avis getting the winner.
But hey, the less said about that the better, for he was eclipsed today.
Wakering III beat Laindon 2-0.
Oh, and I really should mention Chalkwell III’s 6-1
win against Lions. Fairless 2!! If anyone
has a spare 30 minutes, I will happily talk you through both quality strikes.
