Meet the skippers

Despite the fact that it was Champions League night (again!!) there was a decent sized crowd here on the night to watch these two clubs, who are both good ambassadors for this league. Throughout the evening the game was played in a great spirit and at times some good humour in other words - the way veterans football should be played and enjoyed.

The free scoring Fred Shelton notched up a hat-trick after just 23 minutes to give Earls Hall a commanding lead. The eventual man-of-the-match winner Ronnie Docherty was in superb form for the Division Four Champions. However, stung by the bright start of their opponents, the Old Boys started to get back into the game and a stunning strike from Neil Brewer gave Earls Hall something to think about. One thing associated with the Old Boys is their never -say-die spirit and they pressed hard for another goal to reduce the deficit.

HALF TIME 3 - 1

The second half was only 12 minutes old when Kingdon struck for Earls Hall to make it 4 - 1 and it was was then a massive task for the Old Boys to come back. In true 'Black Gold & Green' spirit they played as though it was 0 - 0 and fought for every ball. They forced the Earls Hall defenders deeper back and created some good chances.

They were still pushing forward in the dying minutes and paid the price when they conceded two last goals from Mark Naulls, Mark Ward and Shelton added a forth to his tally to round of the the scoring for a 7 - 1 victory.

As I said at the top of this report, both sides were a real credit to the league and put on a game worthy of the spirit of the veterans game.

The post match awards were presented by long serving LMC member - FRED THICKBROOM
