SBCVL GOLF DAY II

SOUTHEND BOROUGH COMBINATION VETERANS LEAGUE  GOLF DAY II

This was the second year that Garry Nelsons company Leisure Link has arranged our charity gold day. The event, like last years inaugural event, took place at the splendid Rochford Hundred Golf Course. We were delighted to be joined by another 'celebrity' and this year we were joined by the former West Ham United star and now Sky Sports television pundit - TONY GALE.

This event, although not so many teams this year was once again a fantastic day out for all who took part. This year we were lucky that the England game in the evening saw us win this time around, with 'Galey' predicting not only the score but the first scorer!!

As for the day itself we were treated to some splendid golf on what was a superb course. The staff at Rochford Hundred made us all very welcome and the evening meal was superb.  Leisure Link put on a really good days golf for everyone and the whole day ran like clockwork from beginning to end.

This year we raised £1000 on the raffle plus our 'special guest' TONY GALE also raised an additional £1050 in the evening when he put up a prize of TWO Directors Box tickets for next Sunday's Premier League game at Upton Park when The Hammers play host to their London neighbours Arsenal. This money together with all the other money raised on the day was presented to Little Havens.  The winners of the SBCVL Shield was won by Old Southendian, who had Tony Gale playing for them on the day.

Last years event was a tester, to see if it would become an annual event, and after this second Golf Day, I think we can safely say it will continue for a good number of years to come, lets hope so.

On behalf of the SBCVL I wash to say a big thank you to Garry Nelson and Doug Fisher from Leisure Link for their efforts to get this all arranged and to run it so smoothly on the day.
